I started working as a hair stylist over 30 years ago. I have been very fortunate throughout my career as a stylist and salon owner. I have studied under and worked alongside some of the best hair dressers in the United States. Thirty years later I still love what I do and I look forward to learning new techniques as well as keeping up with new shampoos, conditioners and styling products.
When I first become a hair stylist, I jumped into it with both feet. I did not know where this career would take me. I moved from Littleton, Colorado to Las Vegas, Nevada and became a manager at the Frank Marino Salon called La Cage Salon located right on the Lake. During the day, I was running his salon and at night I would do wigs and help with hair for a couple of shows on the Strip. I became one of the first two hair stylists to do hair extensions in Las Vegas and began to start to make a name for myself. A couple of years later I and a partner, opened one of the biggest salons in Las Vegas. Within a couple of years, I bought my business partner out and Jagged Edge Day Spa and Salon was all mine. I had some of the best stylists, nail technicians and estheticians in Las Vegas at the salon. We did many of the shows on the strip, including the MTV Awards, Country Music Awards, Penn & Teller, Phantom of the Opera, Mama Mia, along with several other awards shows. The salon was a great learning experience for me. One of the sayings I would use was “the day I feel like I know everything there is to know about hair will be the day I stop doing hair.” I enjoyed owning the salon, but missed the freedom and rewards of being a stylist. I finally decided to shut down my salon for now and get back to my roots. I am now working as a hair stylist full time. It’s been great working full time again behind my chair. I truly feel like my best work is yet to come.
A new opportunity has unfolded. I have the chance to serve the community as the owner and primary stylist at Studio 26 Salon. I love working with the seniors and this small salon is perfect for me at this time.
